Jeff Ishee, Executive Producer and host

Jeff Ishee is Farm Director for WSVA radio in Harrisonburg, Virginia. The station was ranked # 1 in the nation by Arbitron in the "News/Talk" format in 2000 and 2001.

Ishee produces and broadcasts hundreds of "Agribusiness" segments each year for listeners of "On the Farm" Radio in Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, and North Carolina.

He is also the host and producer of Virginia's only weekly farm television show. "Virginia Farming" is broadcast throughout Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Since 2004, the show has also been broadcast twice weekly nationwide via satellite on RFD-TV . The program is now available in more than 40 million homes nationwide.

Ishee served as VP of the Virginia Farmers Direct Marketing Association and is actively involved in farmers’ marketing. He has consulted with numerous organizations across the nation on issues relating to public farmers’ markets and has also served on the Environmental Awards Selection Committee of the VA Poultry Federation.

He is a columnist for the News Leader in Staunton, where he writes about vegetable gardening. Ishee wrote and self-published his first book in 1997entitled "Dynamic Farmers’ Marketing: A Guide to Successfully Selling Your Farmers’ Market Products."

Ishee has received numerous awards including the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s Agriculture Journalism Award for Broadcasting (radio category) for the past six consecutive years as well as the television and Internet category from 2003-2008. In 2009, Virginia Farm Bureau announced that future winners will be recipients of the "Ishee/Quann Award for Media Excellence." This new award will be initiated in 2010 and will recognize Ishee and the late Homer Quann for their many years of service to the industry of agriculture in Virginia.

The Virginia Association of Broadcasters named Virginia Farming TV as the state's “Outstanding News Series" for 2007 and again for 2008.

Ishee also received an Honorary State Degree from Virginia FFA in 2000.

Farm broadcaster honored with award - (2007) Jeff Ishee, host and producer of "On the Farm" Radio and "Virginia Farming" Television has been recognized for his efforts to bring research-based information from Virginia Cooperative Extension to 2.5 million radio listeners and into more than 40 million homes through Public TV and RFD-TV. Officials say that, based on advertising and sponsorship rates, the dollar value of the radio and television airtime he contributes to Extension is estimated to be approximately $26,000 per week or $1.3 million annually.”
